We are an advisory body to the City of Los Angeles—a 100% volunteer organization working to advocate for Sawtelle and bring municipal resources to our community.

Our goal is simple: to improve the quality of living in Sawtelle.

As a Neighborhood Council, we learn by doing, offering concrete ways to address the civic, infrastructural, cultural, environmental, transportation, and public safety issues that shape everyday life in Sawtelle.

COMMUNICATIONS+OUTREACH COMMITTEE: Chair Walton Chiu
C&O designs the interface between the Council and the neighborhood — curating events that strengthen placemaking and quality of life year-round, including our tentpole anime series and community 5K walk/run, and expanding outreach to minority language communities, youth, students, renters and seniors.

MOBILITY ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE: Chair Malcolm Ray
MEC tackles anything related to how people, vehicles, and green infrastructure shape our built environment — from expanding urban forestry and the Slow Street Network to installing protected bike lanes and making our streets safer. We meet once a month via Zoom.

PLANNING & LAND USE MANAGEMENT [PLUM]: Chair David Swartz
PLUM shapes what our community will look like in twenty years — addressing density, height, setbacks, and affordability. Meets once a month, in person or via Zoom.

PUBLIC SAFETY & HOMELESSNESS COMMITTEE: Chair Jay Handal
The Public Safety & Homelessness committee tackles issues of systemic failure around homelessness and locating ways to increase public safety in our neighborhood. The team meets once a month in person at the NC Office.

RENTERS COMMITTEE: Chair Malcolm Ray
Sawtelle is approximately 65–70% renter-occupied. The Renters Team advocates for renters and works to identify innovative policy frameworks and practical solutions that improve the quality of life for renters throughout our community. Committee meets once a month via zoom.
