How to Run for a Board Seat

Interested in joining the West LA-Sawtelle Neighborhood Council? Here’s how to become a candidate:

  1. Check Eligibility
You must be a stakeholder — meaning you live, work, own property, or represent an organization within WLASNC boundaries.

  2. Choose a Seat
Board seats include residential, business, organizational, and at-large positions. Review the bylaws to see which seats you qualify for.

  3. Submit Your Application
Complete and file the candidate application form by the deadline (posted on our website and through EmpowerLA/City Clerk).

  4. Candidate Verification
The City Clerk will confirm your eligibility. You may also be invited to participate in candidate forums to share your vision with the community.

  5. Election or Selection Day
Stakeholders vote for candidates (or, in some years, board members are selected by the community). Results are certified by the City Clerk.

  6. Begin Your Term
New board members are seated at the next council meeting. Be ready to attend monthly meetings and actively represent your community.
